Microsoft released their Surface tablet a couple of weeks ago, together with their Windows 8 operating system, and while it is only available in certain countries, CEO Steve Ballmer said that the current sales are “modest” – without giving specific sales figures.
The CEO said that the sales have been a bit slow due to shortages, but added that “It’s a good sign”. He also added that the company “will fix this problem quickly” by improving distribution to other nations as quickly as possible.
Regarding the sales of Windows 8, Ballmer told Le Parisien that he expects Windows Phone 8 volumes to “ramp up quickly”.
“Steve also talked about the coming Surface Pro, noting that it will have a higher-definition screen and Intel processor. He also repeated an earlier announcement that the company sold 4 million Windows 8 upgrades to consumers in only 3 days,” wrote Microsoft-News.com
Microsoft’s Surface is a tablet device aimed at competing with Apple’s highly-successful iPad. Originally unveiled in June, Surface with Windows RT will initially be available in three SKUs: a 32GB version priced at US$499, a 32GB version bundled with a black Touch Cover priced at US$599, and a 64GB version bundled with a black Touch Cover priced at US$699.
Surface has been made available for purchase at all Microsoft Store locations in the United States and Canada, including in all 34 new holiday stores. In addition, Surface will be available for sale online in eight markets across the world: Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and the United States.
There has been no confirmation when Surface will be coming to Africa, but rumours pin it at January next year.
