MTN is introducing new
measures aimed at ensuring an improved Internet experience for all
BlackBerry customers on its network.
The company has announced that it will put in place regular traffic
monitoring measures to counter the negative impact on the network caused by
BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) users that stream large amounts of content
outside of the fair usage policy.
Says Devan Chetty, General Manager: Core & IP Planning at MTN SA; “The
aim of this is to ensure that the current over-usage by a small group of heavy
data downloaders does not negatively affect the Internet experience for
everyone else. The MTN customer experience is our priority.”
The measures will enable MTN to manage usage speeds that fall outside the
intended parameters (browsing, e-mail and links to websites) for the BlackBerry
Internet Service, such as streaming, downloading of files and Voice over
Internet Protocol (VoIP) on the BlackBerry network.
