VISAFONE BLACKBERRY SERVICE KICKS OFF

Visafone Communication Limited  flagged off the sale of its BlackBerry smartphones in Visafone’s 88 shops nationwide following last week’s unveiling of the new CDMA-based versions of the smartphones. Nigeria’s leading telecoms operator, Visafone had earlier broken an African record in Lagos by launching three new models of CDMA-based Blackberry smartphones in partnership with Research in Motion (RIM), a global leader in wireless innovation.

Existing and prospective customers who have long awaited the launch of the first BlackBerry smartphones on the Visafone network will be able to pre-book for the smartphones which the telecoms operator promises will offer superior quality of service.

Research in Motion (RIM), the Canada-based makers of BlackBerry smartphones and Visafone signed an agreement for the launch of BlackBerry services in Nigeria on the CDMA mobile network of the Nigerian mobile phone company.

Both companies say the deal marked first-time availability of CDMA BlackBerry smartphones in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, and it is a first in Nigeria.

Visafone is currently rated Nigeria’s number one mobile operator for quality of service by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the telecoms industry regulator. At a joint press statement issued in Lagos last Wednesday, the partners said the BlackBerry Curve 9310, the BlackBerry Curve 9370 and the BlackBerry Bold 9930 smartphones will be available to customers from all the Visafone shops for pre-booking from Monday, October 29.
